Family Law Agencies

Welcome to the Family section of our Agency Directory. Here you can find information about organizations that provide legal services specifically targeting Family Law. Or you can visit our whole Agency Directory.

The following agencies provide legal assistance to individuals with legal problems in one or more of the family law subjects listed:

Legal Advice & Referral Center:

LARC is primarily a legal hotline, providing advice and counsel to eligible callers over the telephone. LARC makes referrals to other agencies as appropriate, and provides most of the intake and referral for the Pro Bono Program of the New Hampshire Bar Association. LARC also provides more extensive pro se assistance, and direct representation in a small number of cases.

New Hampshire Legal Assistance:

NHLA provides direct representation in domestic violence cases. Clients must meet eligibility requirements. Clients may apply for services directly through the branch law offices, or through their local domestic violence crisis center.

Disabilities Rights Center:

DRC provides assistance to individuals involved in legal matters arising out of their disability. DRC houses the Coalition for Family Law and Mental Health, a project focused on improving the ability of the judicial system to respond to the needs of parents/litigants with mental health issues.

New Hampshire Bar Association:

NHBA operates three different legal services programs, which are designed either to provide attorney representation to low income individuals, or to facilitate in the engagement of counsel.

The Pro Bono Program matches eligible clients who are referred to Pro Bono by LARC with volunteer attorneys. Attorneys then provide representation for free. Clients are screened for financial and subject matter eligibility by LARC.

The Lawyer Referral Service operates a full fee and a reduced fee referral service which refers eligible clients to attorneys who have enrolled in the program. Clients must be able to pay for representation; both programs have financial guidelines. Application for the program is made directly.

The Domestic Violence Emergency Project (DOVE) is a program operated out of the local domestic violence crisis centers. The Bar Association provides training to attorneys who then volunteer to represent clients in domestic violence cases for free. Referrals to volunteer attorneys are made by local crisis centers, and application for assistance should be made there.

The New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

The Coalition is a statewide network of independent member programs committed to ending domestic and sexual violence. The N.H. Coalition is comprised of 14 independent programs throughout the state that provide services to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Their services are free, confidential, and available to all victims regardless of age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability or financial status. The services include:
